Improvement to an existing feature: Improved

One way to read gains and losses

A gain or a loss now always shows one arrow and plain numbers, money in and out keep their plus and minus, and a zero looks like a zero.

A green up arrow and a red down arrow beside two figures on the left, and a plus and a minus beside two amounts on the right

The same kind of number used to be drawn four different ways. Some had an arrow, some had a sign, and a few had both.

What changed

  • A gain or a loss, such as profit, return, today's move or an exchange rate effect, shows one arrow at the start and plain numbers after it: an up arrow in green or a down arrow in red, then the amount and the percentage.
  • Money moving, such as buys, sells, income and fees, keeps green for money in and red for money out, with a single plus or minus in front of the amount.
  • A balance or a rate is just a number. A goal is shown by its status, not by an arrow.
  • A figure that rounds to zero has no arrow, no sign and no color, so you no longer see a green $0 or a +0.0%.
  • Screen readers hear Gain or Loss in place of the arrow.

The PDF export has no arrow, so there a gain keeps its plus sign on the amount, with the percentage beside it left plain.
