Return figures that say what they are

The figure over the chart is now labelled as the move in your holdings' value, its percentage is over what you held at the start, and the Return card keeps Total and Annual.

Two bars. The first is the whole return in four parts. The second has only the green part filled, beside an information mark

Three numbers on the dashboard could disagree, and each was right about something different. We made them say what they are.

What changed

  • The figure beside your portfolio value now has an info icon. It is how much the value of what you hold moved over the range. It leaves out gains you locked in by selling, income and fees, which the Return card and the row under it count.
  • Its percentage is over what you held when the range began, the same way the Today figure works, so a day's move reads the same in both.
  • The Return card keeps Total and Annual. Monthly and Daily were the yearly rate divided by 12 or 365, a number that never moved with the market. For a real day figure, use Today in the row under the goal cards.

The Return card's Total is your whole return. The figure over the chart is the price movement of what you still hold, so on Max it is usually the smaller of the two.
